Crossing over from Cub Scouts.

Troop 183 was started in 2001 by Webelos crossing over from three packs in Davie, Weston, and Cooper City. Twenty-five years later, new scouts still arrive the same way.

When should Webelos visit a troop?

Most Cub Scouts cross over in late winter of their Arrow of Light year, usually February or March. The best time to visit troops is the fall and winter before. Visiting more than one troop is normal, and we'd encourage it.

Come any Tuesday, 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM, at the St. Bonaventure cafeteria in Davie. Boys can join a troop at 10 if they've earned the Arrow of Light or finished fifth grade.

What changes from Cub Scouts to Scouts BSA?

Who leads: Cub Scout dens are run by parents. In a troop, the scouts run the patrols and the meetings, and adults coach from the side.
Who's in it: Scouts from about 11 to 17, so new scouts learn from older ones who were in their shoes a few years ago.
What you do: More time outdoors: campouts, summer camp, and skills he practices until he can teach them.
How you advance: Seven ranks from Scout to Eagle, earned at his own pace. No grade-by-grade schedule.

How does crossing over work?

Visit a Tuesday meeting, as a family or with your whole den.
Talk with Scoutmaster George Krawczyk about the troop, campouts, and costs.
Pick the troop that fits your son. Your pack's crossover ceremony welcomes him in.
He registers with Troop 183, and his first campout comes soon after.

Bring your whole den to a Tuesday meeting. Visiting a troop together makes the move easier for everyone, and the troop's older scouts like showing new ones around.
